My paintings illuminate that which is present all around us, but often lost under the radar of our day-to-day routine. My work celebrates the small wonders – the elegance of a kitchen table, the texture of a rose petal, the way light hits glass. I hope that by capturing one moment in time, the viewer will discover details that would otherwise be overlooked. I am attracted to small and quiet subjects. When people see my work, they often tell me that they feel a sense of warmth and think back to simpler times.
My paintings are often mistaken for photographs because of the high level of detail and realism. Yet, producing a painting that is as accurate as a quick snapshot takes months of dedication. I think that it is this devotion of time and concentration to my subjects that sets my work apart. I aim for the layers of the painting, developed through countless glazes, to build depth and give the painting life. In this way, it is my hope that the paintings exude a sense of care that will stir the emotions of the viewer.
